It was another banner year for Alberta athletes plying their trades south of the border in U.S. colleges.
As we return for our sixth annual ADS All-College Team, we couldn’t help but notice how many tight races there were for several roster spots.
While several players were able to repeat on this year’s list, some new faces were welcomed thanks to improved performances or past players graduating.

From large NCAA Division I schools to the smallest of junior colleges, the accomplishments were many.
We have once again sorted through all of the statistics and box scores to reflect on the best performances of the season to present you with our 2025 ADS All-College Team.
Catcher – Logan Grant – Chestermere
There aren’t many accolades Logan Grant didn’t take home during his time at Bellevue University. The Dawgs Academy grad rounded out his college career in style by hitting .349 with 19 home runs and 62 RBI in 55 games to collect another First Team All-NSAA selection as well as NSAA Gold Glove, NSAA Scholar-Athlete, Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was a Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian Second Team selection.
First Base – Tom Poole – Calgary
While he didn’t play in a full slate of games at Dallas Baptist University, Tom Poole once again turned heads this past spring. The Calgary Bucks alum posted a .336 batting average with seven homers, 22 RBI and eight stolen bases in just 40 games to earn not only a spot on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, but a pro contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
Second Base – Jaden Babiuk – St. Albert
He’s played nearly every position on the field and has even mused about trying to do it all in one game. After starting his time at Valley City State University as a catcher, Jaden Babiuk moved to shortstop primarily in 2024 and then spent plenty of time in 2025 over at second base. The St. Albert native improved on his offensive numbers as well, posting a line of .333/two HR and 26 RBI in 52 games for the Vikings.
Third Base – Connor Crowson – Okotoks
After an outstanding first season with the University of Montevallo in 2024, it was hard to imagine Connor Crowson could be even better. Yet, the Dawgs Academy alum did exactly that by boosting his batting average by 30 points to .368 last spring and doubling his home run total from eight to 16. He also drove in 62 runs to earn Second-Team All-Conference as well as a spot on the Canadian Baseball Network’s All-Canadian First Team.
Shortstop – Hudson Hoy – Spruce Grove
Talk about a grand entrance into the college baseball world for Hudson Hoy. The Parkland Academy alum and Baseball Alberta regular was impressive in his first season at Northeastern Junior College, collecting a .308 batting average with eight homers and45 RBI in 53 games. He also nabbed 13 doubles, a triple and 14 stolen bases as a freshman.
Outfield – Max Hartman – St. Albert
It’s not easy being a student-athlete, especially if you’re majoring in engineering. That’s the case for Max Hartman, whose second full season with Washington State University went even better than expected. The Dawgs Academy grad built his batting average up to a team-leading .368 to go along with nine doubles, a triple, six homers, eight stolen bases and 33 RBI. Hartman even earned some draft speculation and a spot on the CBN All-Canadian Third Team.
Outfield – Turner Zdunich – High River
Just as his brother and regular ADS All-College Team member, Tucker, graduated from college, Turner Zdunich was ready to pick up the slack. The Dawgs Academy utilityman made a massive impression in his freshman season at Colby Community College, hitting .407 with nine homers and 57 RBI in 55 games. On the mound, he went 3-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 14 appearances, striking out 39 in 36+ innings of work to join Hartman on the CBN All-Canadian Third Team.
Outfield – Will Gardner – St. Albert
It felt like it was only a matter of time before Will Gardner found himself on this list. After two really good seasons at Mount Marty University, the AHP Academy grad took his game to the next level in his senior season. He posted a .352 batting average with 10 home runs and 46 RBI in 48 games, all season bests for the outfielder who also committed just two errors for a .970 fielding percentage.
Designated Hitter/Utility – Ayden Makarus – Okotoks
What a storied comeback that Ayden Makarus had this season. After missing two full years for personal reasons, the Dawgs Academy product found a new collegiate home with Bellevue University and found his footing in a big way. Makarus hit .324 with 17 roundtrippers and 47 RBI in 43 games to earn the NSAA Newcomer of the Year, a First Team All-NSAA, and an NSAA Scholar-Athlete for his efforts, and joined Grant on the CBN All-Canadian Second Team.
Pitcher – Cole Huebner – Edmonton
After an impressive freshman season at Indian Hills Community College, Cole Huebner decided to up the ante in 2025. The AHP righthander finished the season going 6-5 in 13 games, posting a 3.98 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 63+ innings. He now sits fourth all-time in the school’s history for strikeouts while he was named the ICCAC DI Co-Pitcher of the Year and an NJCAA DI Region 11 First-Team selection.
Pitcher – Sawyer Jensen – Strathmore
With Cohen Achen and Graham Brunner both graduating, we knew some fresh faces would make it onto the roster this year and the first freshman is Sawyer Jensen. The Webber Academy righthander was outstanding with Trinidad State during the spring, going 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He also struck out 75 batters in 65+ innings of work while issuing just 25 walks.
Pitcher – Chas Wheatley – Edmonton
It always felt like Chas Wheatley was on the cusp of making it onto the ADS All-College Team, having become a fixture in the Iowa University bullpen. The AHP product was leaned on heavily in his senior season and he rewarded the Hawkeyes by going 2-1 with a save and a 3.70 ERA in 24 appearances, striking out 28 while walking 19 in 24+ innings.
TAXI SQUAD
Trying to pick a taxi squad this year was exceptionally hard with numerous players pushing for spots on the main roster. We had no less than 10 players in the running for what we could classify as “honourable mention,” but after careful deliberations, have narrowed it down to our usual three.
We’ll start on the mound with Edmonton’s Michael Yusypchuk. A highly touted prospect out of high school, the Dawgs Academy product delivered with Missouri State, becoming their Friday night starter right out of the gate. He went 4-3 with a 5.83 ERA in 15 starts, striking out 63 batters to earn the school’s Rookie of the Year Award.
On the bats, Camrose’s Gavin Galenza put together a fantastic sophomore season at Colby Community College. The catcher/outfielder hit.394 with six homers and 30 RBI in 48 games while picking up more walks (23) than strikeouts (17).
And finally, Strathmore’s Kaden Zarowny really came into his own in the outfield for the UBC Thunderbirds this spring. The fourth-year veteran was on the cusp of cracking our roster after posting a .296 batting average with nine doubles, a triple, 10 homers and 34 RBI in 46 games.
As mentioned, a couple of these athletes were singled out by the Canadian Baseball Network in their annual All-Canadian Teams. If you haven’t already, check out their yearly recognitions here:
