2019 MLB Draft Review

The 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft took place from June 3-5 and we have a summary of players with Alberta ties who were selected over the three-day event.

Some of the players chosen in the draft moved here to attend one of the province’s baseball academies, others were born and raised here, while others became familiar faces through the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL).

We also took note of players who are related to some well-known players who made their way to Alberta to play with one of our minor-league affiliates decades ago.

This is our last edition of Alberta Dugout Digest, our weekly analysis of baseball players from the province who are crushing it at post-secondary institutions south of the border.

With regular season play mostly wrapped up and championship tournaments in full swing, we are preparing for the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) season to start up at the end of the month while we keep an eye on postseason action in the United States.

Regular season play for colleges and universities in the United States is winding down as baseball teams gear up for regional championship tournaments and the hope of a run to the World Series.

But Alberta Dugout Digest – a weekly look at exceptional players from our neck of the woods who have ventured south of the border – is still going strong.

We typically break things down by sorting pitching and batting leaders by statistical category, but this week we’re throwing a curveball your way.

Alberta Dugout Digest – April 23rd Edition

It’s time once again to check in on the best hitters and pitchers from our province who have traveled south to play college baseball in the United States.

In this edition of Alberta Dugout Digest, we explore the batters who excel at cranking out home runs, triples, and runs batted in (RBI), along with the leaders in slugging percentage and batting average.

We also examine the pitchers who have done the best job of preventing home runs, the strikeout leaders, the win collectors, the earned-run average (ERA) masters, and those hurlers who are great at keeping hits to a minimum.
