Remembering a Baseball Visionary

Don Seaman, a key figure in helping ensure the Dawgs are safe at home in Okotoks, has passed away.

The baseball visionary and principal donor in the construction of Seaman Stadium and the Duvernay Fieldhouse – the headquarters of the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) and the Dawgs Academy youth baseball program – passed away on July 9th, just a couple weeks short of his 100th birthday.

There’s nothing quite like the Western Canadian Baseball League’s midsummer classic.

From the top-notch talent, to the derby dingers, to the post-game fireworks, the WCBL All-Star Game & Home Run Derby is a dream day for baseball fans.

The 2025 event, presented by FortisAlberta, takes place at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks on Saturday, July 19th. It promises to be filled with family fun and give a stage to the best players in the WCBL.

It was a homecoming Max Benton didn’t think he would ever make.

The Lethbridge Bulls starting pitcher toed the rubber at Doug Lehman Field in Oyen for the Western Canadian Baseball League’s Rural Roots Classic, where he had done it many times before as a member of the Badlands Baseball Academy.

7th Inning Stretch: Aidan Maxwell

There’s no place like home for Aidan Maxwell.

The Brooks native and Badlands Academy alum grew up playing and watching games at Elks Field, looking for an opportunity to suit up for the Western Canadian Baseball League’s Bombers at some point in his collegiate career.

And now he’s living that dream this summer.
