From the Vault: Tristan Peters

He’s so good and he doesn’t even know it.

That was a sentiment that was expressed by one coach to other skippers at the 2019 Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) All-Star Game in Edmonton about Tristan Peters, who was a standout player with the Okotoks Dawgs at the time.

It’s safe to say that Peters now does know exactly what he’s capable of on the ball diamond, given that he’s the starting centre fielder for the Chicago White Sox.

Spruce Grove Ballpark: A Timeline

The wait will have to continue for now for baseball fans in Spruce Grove and around Parkland County to see the Energy City Cactus Rats live and in-person.

However, a long-awaited step has been taken as the Western Canadian Baseball League’s board of governors has voted unanimously to allow the team to play its home games at the under-construction Energy City Metro Ballpark for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Hartley Honoured

One of the top umpires in the Western Canadian Baseball League has been recognized for his officiating achievements across several sports in Alberta.

Kris Hartley – who serves as an umpire and an assignor for the 12-team WCBL – was presented with a Technical Official Recognition Award at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 induction ceremony on June 6th in Red Deer.

2026 WCBL Season Preview

Play ball!

Opening Day for the Western Canadian Baseball League is set for Thursday, May 28th across Alberta and Saskatchewan and teams are ready to begin their pursuit of the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the WCBL champion.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at each club and see what we can expect from them during the 2026 season.
