Fort McMurray Giants Season Preview

Entering their fourth year of existence, the Fort McMurray Giants are in playoffs-or-bust mode.

Last season’s record of 17 wins and 31 losses may not look like much, but it left the Giants just two games back of the Edmonton Prospects and the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Division of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL).

In an attempt to bolster their postseason hopes, the Giants have raided Edmonton’s talent pool.

We continue our special preview series of the Alberta-based WMBL teams with an inside look at the Fort McMurray Giants.

In just their third season in the league, the Giants will be vying for their first winning season and hope to make the jump to the playoffs, focusing primarily on a stellar pitching rotation.

The Battery

Tyler Hodder and Josh Iannetti have played baseball together for about a decade. Whether it’s been in Fort McMurray or in Kamloops with Thompson Rivers University, the battery-mates are looking forward to a new baseball season. They also get to learn from a former Edmonton Trappers hurler.
