Long Ball Launchers Ready for Derby

The field has been set for the Western Canadian Baseball League’s 2025 Home Run Derby.

The event – part of the All-Star Game festivities taking place on Saturday, July 19th at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks – gets underway at 5 p.m. and it will feature a dozen long-ball launchers, one from each WCBL team.

Remembering a Baseball Visionary

Don Seaman, a key figure in helping ensure the Dawgs are safe at home in Okotoks, has passed away.

The baseball visionary and principal donor in the construction of Seaman Stadium and the Duvernay Fieldhouse – the headquarters of the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) and the Dawgs Academy youth baseball program – passed away on July 9th, just a couple weeks short of his 100th birthday.

Summer Games Trailblazers

It’s been a long time coming.

For the first time ever, female baseball has been added to the Canada Summer Games, with the debut coming August 18-24 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Baseball Alberta has named its roster for the inaugural event.

Logan Grant is now the Bellevue University Bruins’ all-time home runs leader.

After a slow start to the 2025 season, the Dawgs Academy grad and Okotoks Dawgs utilityman has topped Riley Baasch on the list.

1 Thru 9: Kingston Besuijen

Representing his home province will never get old for Kingston Besuijen.

While the Okotoks native has done it before, the Dawgs Academy product says it went to another level when he did it on home turf with Baseball Alberta at the 2024 Canada Cup in Fort McMurray.

Might As Well Jump

It’s there for the taking and Tristan Peters is ready to grab it.

The outfielder made a name for himself with the Triple-A Durham Bulls by making spectacular diving catches in the International League this year.

In 2025, he wants to make the jump to Major League Baseball (MLB).
