Ayden Makarus knew he was going to a powerhouse when he joined LSU-Eunice in 2020.

Little did he know, the Bengals’ quest to win their seventh NJCAA Division II championship since 2006 would face hurdles along the way.

With fellow Dawgs Academy grad Jackson Fraser, Makarus finally got to taste a title this spring.

1 Thru 9: Matt Coutney

After putting in a strong campaign for the Colby Community College Trojans this year, Matt Coutney is doing everything he can to keep the Edmonton Prospects in the playoff hunt in 2018.

The Wetaskiwin-born infielder, who played for Canada’s Junior National Team last year, played 52 games for the Trojans, recording 12 home runs, 54 RBI, 60 runs and a .431 batting average in his freshman season. He also won a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Gold Glove for his excellent defensive play and the third baseman was named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Freshman of the Year.

Dawg Pack Mentality

Dogs typically run in packs, and when it comes to the Okotoks Dawgs, they’re no exception.

One such pack headed south this winter and made its way to Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, where sophomores Justin King, Ryan Humeniuk and Corey Jackson were joined by freshmen Soren Graversen and Shaun Atamanchuk.
