Justin King used to think pitchers were dumb.

Growing up exclusively as a hitter, he always thought all they wanted to throw was fastballs, so he would wait on a hanging slider or curveball so he could send it flying.

The Dawgs Academy grad has had to change his belief on that after transitioning into a pitcher during his final college season – a move that recently landed him a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Erik Kratz represents the end of an Alberta era. He is the last active player in Major League Baseball who spent time with the Medicine Hat Blue Jays.

He was part of the last Pioneer League team to come through Athletic Park in 2002.

We caught up with his old manager Rolando Pino to talk about Kratz and his improbable journey to baseball folk hero.
