As the strikeouts pile up, Matt Wilkinson might have to think about adding a few more k’s to his last name.

The Dawgs Academy grad has been electric in his first season with Central Arizona College, posting a 5-1 record with two saves and a 1.56 ERA.

However, the strikeout total of 71 over 40 innings of work is what is turning many heads this spring.

7th Inning Stretch: Matt Wilkinson

He was a star at the Little League World Series several years ago and an effective pitcher as one of the youngest players in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) this summer.

So, it’s not surprising that Matt Wilkinson has been selected to take part in the Tournament 12 (T12) annual showcase tournament, which is taking place at Rogers Centre in Toronto from Sept. 17-21.

We caught up with the Dawgs Academy pupil and asked him seven questions as part of our 7th Inning Stretch series.

Trip Down LLWS Memory Lane

It has been 17 years since an Alberta team represented Canada at the Little League World Series.

The Calgary West squad was the first since 1977 to take Canada to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

As everyone watched this year’s edition, we caught up with two members of that squad to reminisce about that tournament.

Getting the Call

They call it a “dream come true.” Four Alberta umpires have received letters to represent Canada at major Little League tournaments in the United States, including the Little League World Series.
