They took that mentality into the Baseball Alberta Elite League playoffs, capturing the provincial title.

The Braves then rode that momentum into nationals, claiming Alberta’s first gold since 2012.

It was the summer of 1990 and life was good for Calgary baseball fans.

If you went to Foothills Stadium to take in a Triple-A game that season, the odds were good that you’d get to see shortstop Omar Vizquel pick a ball out of the infield dirt and fire it over to first baseman Tino Martinez to record an out.

If you were really lucky, you might show up on one of the nights that outfielder Jay Buhner suited up for the Cannons that year.

Cooper Ciesielski was a baseball-bashing beast this summer.

The outfielder with the Sylvan Lake Gulls tormented Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) pitchers during the season.

His lethal bat helped Ciesielski win the 2024 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, as selected by coaches from across the WCBL.

Chatwood Named Coach of the Year

After guiding the Sylvan Lake Gulls to a regular-season wins record, Jason Chatwood has been named the Western Canadian Baseball League’s Coach of the Year.

The Gulls won 44 games during the season, improving their record to 143-65 since joining the Western Canadian Baseball League in 2021.

WCBL All-Stars Announced

The Western Canadian Baseball League has named its regular season all-star selections for the 2024 campaign.

The announcement includes a First Team All-Star squad and a Second Team All-Star roster consisting of pitchers, catchers, infielders, outfielders and designated hitters.
