Born without a right hand, he persevered to become a college, Olympic and MLB pitcher who threw a no-hitter for the New York Yankees in 1993.

Abbott once again inspired fans with an improbable comeback in 1998 that included five appearances with the Calgary Cannons.

As a filmmaker, Sean Mullin knows this. But when the chance to work on a documentary about Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra presented itself, that pearl of wisdom took on even more meaning.

His production, “It Ain’t Over”, will be screened at the 2022 Calgary International Film Festival from September 22-October 2.

Joltin’ Joe Has Left & Gone Away

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

Fishing in Alberta, of course.

Or at least that’s what he told reporters prior to his arrival in Wild Rose Country in the summer of 1953.

“I’m going to Jasper to fish,” DiMaggio told The Vancouver Sun before hopping on a Trans-Canada Airlines plane for Calgary.

There was indeed an enticing catch to be had in Alberta at the time, in the form of his main squeeze Marilyn Monroe.
